In many of our programs and lives, we are preparing to wrap up the regular year and enter into Summerland. This month we will be chatting all about: End of Year Celebrations.

Each week, I will share with you one the ways our staff plan and celebrate the work of the children. Sprinkled in over the weeks will be some storytelling, goal setting, and tips to quell that nearly inevitable feeling of overwhelm that sneaks up on us all. I got you. We got this.

Photo Book = Time Capsule

If y’all have been around here for a bit, you know my love language is pictures and words. I love to capture the magic and mystery that happens in our corner of the woods with beautiful images and meaningful words. 

Last week, I shared that we gift each child a picture book - that covers the words part! Now, my staff and I organize our collected photos in digital folders for each child. We share these with families via Google Photos and then select 15-20 to have printed and placed into handheld photo albums (4x6). 

To watch the children thumb through these treasures and smile at the sight of themselves, remembering some of the moments that may have seemed ordinary … becoming extraordinary in that instant. Children I have taught for several years STILL hold these books close. They have brought them in to share with the cohort and regale tales from that season of their childhood. This is a literal time capsule that can be at the fingertips of children and families for years to come.
