Hey, Play Advocate.

In many of our programs and lives, we are preparing to wrap up the regular year and enter into Summerland. This month we will be chatting all about: End of Year Celebrations.

Each week, I will share with you one the ways our staff plan and celebrate the work of the children. Sprinkled in over the weeks will be some storytelling, goal setting, and tips to quell that nearly inevitable feeling of overwhelm that sneaks up on us all. I got you. We got this.

👌 End of Year Celebration #2

Building a Library for Every Child.

Many years ago, I gifted each preschooler in my class a children’s book that I thought suited their unique and beautiful personality. We had spent hours together reading stories throughout the year and I wanted a piece of that to go home with them.

In the front cover of each book, teachers write a personal note sharing what we love most about them and how important they are to me and to this world. I do the same for staff, along with some local handmade treasures (chocolate, a candle and a card made by a local artist). I’ve carried this tradition on for nearly 6 years and it’s a personal and crowd favorite.

Use this as an opportunity to source books and goodies from local, small businesses. This might feel like a major high-ticket tradition, but MANY bookstores offer teacher discounts up to 25%! Proudly ask the cashier if they have teacher discounts! This year I selected 18 books (for children and staff) for under $100.
